Oxnard police arrest known gang member for firearm possession

OXNARD, Calif. - The Oxnard Police Department arrested a known gang member in the city on Thursday after he was found to be in possession of a handgun.
Officers with the Gang Unit were reportedly conducting a uniformed gang enforcement around 6 p.m. in the downtown area.
During the enforcement, police pulled over a vehicle on the 300 block of South C Street. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 45-year-old Oxnard man who was a documented gang member. Due to a prior felony conviction, police said the man is prohibited from owning or possessing any firearms. The man was also out on bail for a pending felony firearms possession case at the time.
Police said they decided to conduct a probation search of the man's vehicle and home. During the search of his residence, police reported finding a 9mm Glock-style Polymer 80 semi-automatic handgun.
The police department explained that Polymer 80 semi-automatic handguns are commercially sold as incomplete, without serial numbers, and must be further manufactured to make them into functioning firearms.
The Oxnard man was ultimately arrested on multiple felony firearm-related charges.
The Oxnard Police Department's Gang Unit said it is committed to reducing gang crimes and gun violence in the city through the strict enforcement of laws specifically targeting known, active gang members.
