Hurricane Fire in rural SLO County increases overnight

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. — A fire broke out in rural Santa Margarita area Saturday morning and increased Sunday, according to Cal Fire San Luis Obispo County.

Cal Fire says the blaze broke out near Elkhorn Road and Hurricane Road near the Carrizo Plain National Monument area, at approximately 10:54 a.m.

Cal Fire first reported the so-called "Hurricane Fire" at roughly 20,000 acres, but corrected the amount of acreage around 4:08 p.m. The fire officially burned 12, 678 overnight and is now 80% contained.

It's a vast difference from the 859 acreage on Saturday.

Cal Fire says, this is a US Bureau of Land Management California incident.

Kern County officials have placed evacuation orders for people near the blaze.

There is an interactive map being used by Kern County Fire, who are also assisting in the firefight.
