Tony Almanza / KEYT

SOLVANG, Calif.- The Sheriff’s Office and all nearby buildings in Solvang were evacuated on Thursday during an investigation of a suspicious object.

Raquel Zick with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office says someone brought an item to the sheriff’s office that they wanted to be “booked for destruction."

Two Bearcat vehicles were parked as a layer of protection between the suspicious object and the public.

Evacuations included the sheriff’s office, the veterans hall, the city library and a local food distribution center.

We're told the item has been safely recovered and will be destroyed. The person who brought the item in is not under arrest or investigation.

The sheriff's office described them as a good samaritan but did mention they prefer to pick up these kinds of items themselves.
