CAPITAN, Calif. - California Highway Patrol reported that a vehicle caught on fire on the southbound lanes of Highway 101 Saturday morning.

The car was called in around 10:16 a.m. CHP reported that the car had pulled over to the righthand-side of the lanes and was emitting heavy smoke and flames.

The flames appeared to be coming from the front end of the car, but the car also reportedly had a full tank of gas.

Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the blaze and successfully extinguished it.

Around 10:31 a.m., both of the freeway's southbound lanes were temporarily closed for the fire. Lane one was reopened not long after around 10:38 a.m.

The second southbound lane was opened again around 11:03 a.m.
