Classes canceled in some Ventura County school districts due to planned power outages

Some Ventura County schools were closed Thursday because of public safety power shutoffs in the area.

Some 2,710 Southern California Edison customers in Ventura County were without power as of Thursday morning. Another 76,000 customers were warned that they could lose power due to high fire danger.

The county says schools in Fillmore Unified School District and Mupu School District were closed.

Fillmore Unified said classes were canceled for both Thursday and Friday. School events that were planned for both days were canceled until further notice.

Mupu School District said classes were canceled Thursday and that the district was monitoring the conditions to see if classes would still be canceled Friday.

All other public schools in the county were expected to stay open as planned.
