Crews rescue 8 after fishing boat engine overheats off coast of Avila Beach

Six passengers and two crew members aboard a 50-foot fishing boat were rescued Sunday morning off the shore of Avila beach.

Crews from both CAL FIRE SLO and Port San Luis Harbor Patrol responded to the incident just before 7:30 a.m.

The boat with the two crew members still on board was towed to Harford Pier a short time later.

Initial reports said there was a small fire in the engine room and the fire suppression system was activated.

After further investigation, the crew determined that the engine overheated and that there was no fire.

Crews remained in the scene until the vessel brought to shore.
