Guadalupe Fire Department doubles its full-time fire engineers

In a bold move by the Guadalupe City Council, the Guadalupe Fire Department is doubling its number of full-time fire engineers.

As of this week, an additional three full-time fire engineers have now joined the department.

This is a 50 percent increase in staffing and the first full-time fire department hires in almost four years.

The department last hired a full-time employee in 2016.

At that time the department had only three fire captains servicing the city of 7,000 residents on a 24/7 basis.

Mike Cash of the Guadalupe Fire Department said this is the biggest increase in staffing that the department has ever had.

“I’m very excited. This is going to make our community safer than it has every been. When any situation happens we will have more people on scene, and we will be able to assist and offer the services that our citizens need,” Cash said.

Cash said as the city, now at a population of about 9,000, continues to grow, public safety will remain its number one priority for them.
