Port of Hueneme hosts 8th annual Banana Festival

The Port of Hueneme hosted its 8th annual Banana Festival on Saturday.

The free event celebrated the diverse working port known for importing bananas.

Port Deputy Director Andrew Palomares shared a fun fact. He said, “The Port of Hueneme imports enough bananas that if you put them end to end around the world they would go around the world 13 times in one year.”

Port Commissioner Jess Herrera said, “The Port of Hueneme is essential to the local economy, and critical to our national defense. We work pretty well with our Navy and our community to make this the gateway to the world,”

The festival included an education port pavilion, arts and crafts, a kids zone, and live music.

People also had a chance to win prizes.

Banana inspired food booths included chocolate covered bananas made by the Lion’s Club.

Other booths served banana drinks.
