Climate march organizers call for action

For the second consecutive Friday people took part in a climate strike in Santa Barbara.

Organizers call it Fridays for the Future. They said it is a leaderful movement meaning they have many leaders.

Many have been inspired by Sweden’s teen activist Greta Thunberg.

About 1,000 people took part in a rally and march that began at De La Guerra Plaza in Santa Barbara.

They marched to Pershing Park and back.

Climate strike organizers Brent Goodlet said they intentionally held the event in the middle of the day to disrupt work and school.

Emily Williams said,”People are ready for a massive system change.”

Rebecca August said people from all kinds of groups came together to take part.

They hope people will continue to do their part.

They applauded the recent divestment of fossil fuel related stocks by higher education in the state.

Some of the participants plan to rally again in on Saturday afternoon when the former Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke speaks at a benefit at the Elks Club in Goleta.
