‘Brave the Shave’ event raises awareness about childhood cancer

A Santa Maria Elementary School joined forces with the community to raise awareness of childhood cancer.

Taylor Elementary School hosted a “Gold Day” celebration Thursday. Students, faculty and staff got together to raise funds and support childhood cancer causes.

Some even showed their support by having their hair shaved off.

It’s the third year the school hosted this “Brave the Shave” head shaving event in partnership with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

September is childhood cancer awareness month. Taylor School raised at least $5,000 for the Samuel Jeffers Childhood Cancer Foundation of Grover Beach which funds research to fight childhood cancer.
