Santa Ynez Valley Humane Society, DAWG set to join forces in 2020

Two Santa Barbara County animal shelters are set to merge next year.

Santa Ynez Valley Humane Society and Dog Adoption & Welfare Group will merge in early 2020 to “better serve companion animals in Santa Barbara County.”

The two organizations have been in discussions on a possible merger for the past several months after DAWG was informed that Santa Barbara County would not be renegotiating a new lease at the organization’s current location. DAWG has been located on Overpass Road on Santa Barbara County property since its inception and the lease agreement ends this coming March.

The two organizations are about the same size and share similar animal welfare philosophies and adoption and vet care programs. They say a merger will allow the two organizations to continue providing their services in a more efficient way.

DAWG’s current location in Goleta will remain open until the end of their lease agreement. After that, they will relocate to the Santa Ynez Valley Animal Shelter campus on Commerce Drive in Buellton.

When merged, the new organization will continue to partner with Santa Barbara County Animal Services and other local animal welfare organizations and will remain active in southern Santa Barbara County while serving the whole county.
