Oxnard Salsa Festival kicks off with Pete Escovedo concert

The Oxnard Salsa Festival celebrated Latin Jazz on Friday night.

Legendary percussionist Pete Escovedo performed with a large band that included some of his sons.

Many people know him as Pops.

Escovedo, 84, is also the father of Sheila E. who became world-famous performing alongside Prince.

Fans of the family packed the dance floor to salsa.

The festival in Oxnard’s Plaza Park runs through Sunday with a salsa dance competition and a salsa tasting contest.
