Neighbors miss recently-closed drive-in and swap meet in Goleta
If you haven’t been to a drive-in movie, you may be out of luck. It is too late to experience the one in Goleta.
The outdoor screen is still there, but the West Wind Drive-In is closed for good.
That also means an end to the swap meet on the 12-acre property that is home to a snack bar, a colorful rose garden and several abandoned cars.
The drive-in’s closest neighbor, Juan Morales said he loved taking his kids to the movies. They could walk or drive right around the corner to see a movie on the big screen that could be seen by driving along the highway.
Morales said he didn’t mind the planes that flew overhead from the Santa Barbara airport because he had good speakers inside his car.
The location has been removed from the West Wind Drive-In website.
Syufy Enterprises in Northern California owns the business and could be looking to develop it.
The company would need the approval of the California Coastal Commission and the city of Goleta.
Syufy has not yet answered calls or emails with questions about the future of the property.
