$300,000 grant approved to develop more jobs on the Central Coast
The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors has approved a $300,000 grant agreement with the Hourglass Project in an effort to create more jobs on the Central Coast.
The funds will help lay the groundwork for a project called the Central Coast Jobs Roadmap and Action Plan. This grant makes up only about 35 percent of the money needed – the remaining funds will come from private organizations and non-governmental agencies.
Assistant County Administrative Officer Guy Savage said, “This project is a public-private partnership that will provide an actionable approach to helping us all work together to restructure and build a stable local economy.”
Senate Bill 1090 made the funding possible, which was authored by State Senator Bill Monning and signed into law in September 2018 following the closure of the Diablo Canyon Power Plant. The bill ensures the community will get $35 million in Community Impact Mitigation Funds, which also will help local schools support and maintain critical programs.
