Former Ventura music teacher faces additional charges for child molestation

A former music teacher from Ventura County who was previously indicted on multiple accounts of exploitation against young children has been indicted again on more charges.

John Edward Zeretzke was indicted on six counts of lewd acts against five young girls who were under the age of 14.

Zeretzke was previously indicted in September for exploitation and child pornography charges.

Previously known as an award-winning composer and musician, Zeretzke started the “Flutes Across the World” program at Circle V Ranch Camp in Santa Barbara County. During the event, campers aged 7 to 13 made two flutes — one for them to keep and another which would be donated as part of a goodwill mission to the Philippines.

A state and federal investigation later uncovered that the flutes were tainted with bodily fluids — including semen.

Zeretzke was arrested and indicted and could face life in prison for those allegations.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra in a press release said of the latest indictments, “”Crimes against children are despicable. Schools must represent a safe environment for our students,” said Attorney General Becerra. “No parent should fear for the safety and security of their child at school. We will work relentlessly to hold people who exploit our children criminally accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
