Santa Barbara County appoints new Public Health Officer

The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department announced the appointment of its new health officer, Dr. Henning Ansorg. MD, FACP, at Tuesdays’ board of supervisor’s meeting.

Ansorg replaces Dr. Charity Dean, who held the position from 2014 through the end of 2018, up until she was appointed assistant director at the California Department of Public Health.

The County’s new health officer has served as a physician at county health centers since 2016, most recently, as the tuberculosis clinician for south county as well as deputy health officer.

Ansorg received his medical degree from Giessen University in Giessen, Germany along with a post graduate Doctorate from Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Germany.

His medical career started in Germany where he was Board Certified in Family Medicine and worked in Private Practice and Urgent Care settings in Munich, Germany for 10 years, before relocating in the U.S. at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ where he completed his Internal Medicine Residency. From there, he practiced Internal Medicine and Integrative Medicine in Sedona, AZ for 11 years.

“The Health Officer role is critical not only for the Public Health Department, but for all of Santa Barbara County. I am excited that Dr. Ansorg will bring his experience working in our county with some of the most vulnerable patients to his new position,” shared Van Do-Reynoso, PhD, MPH, Director for the Public Health Department.
