UCSB Softball drops Big West opener to Cal State Fullerton

UC Santa Barbara Softball played a pair of close games to open Big West play Saturday, but the Gauchos couldn’t shake their losing streak.

UCSB dropped both games of Saturday’s doubleheader against Cal State Fullerton, extending their losing streak to 11 games.

After dealing with weather issues earlier in the season, the Gauchos (6-27, 0-2 Big West) returned to campus to host only their fifth and sixth home games this season. Their last win came at home against Western Carolina on March 12th .

In the opener, Felisha Noriega (5-11) pitched a complete game for the Gauchos, giving up only two hits and one unearned run. The offense was shut out, however, with pinch runner Ally Nodohara thrown out at home trying to score on a Maci Fines hit in the fifth inning.

The Titans held on for a 1-0 win.

In the second game, Cal State Fullerton (22-12, 2-0) broke a 2-2 tie in extra innings to win 6-2 in eight innings.

The two teams will play the series finale Sunday at noon.
