Distraught man yields heavy police presence in Santa Barbara

UPDATE

Just before 6 Friday evening, the distraught man surrendered to police without injury. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

ORIGINAL STORY

There’s a large police presence at a home in Santa Barbara.

This is on the 200 block of Palm Avenue. Police are dealing with an individual who is possibly armed.

A police bearcat vehicle is on scene and negotiations are underway to resolve the incident.

This all started around 3:30 p.m. Friday and is happening across the way from the Smart & Final store on Gutierrez Street. Palm Avenue is the only road blocked off.

Police are in communication with the man over the phone trying to de-escalte the situation.
