After 71 years Elm Street elementary shows off new campus
An Oxnard Elementary school is getting a facelift after 71 years. Elm Street elementary school will host its grand opening ceremony on Saturday showing off the new campus.
After 71 years Elm Street Elementary School got an upgrade.
The students are beyond excited about their new campus.
“The brand new school is amazing,” said Zakir Diaz, a 4th grader at Elm Elementary.
Elm Elementary is the third school in the Oxnard school district to undergo reconstruction through Measure R which issues 90-million in General Obligation bonds over time.
The ground breaking for the reconstruction began back in 2017. Leticia Ramos, who has been the principal at Elm Street School, says everyone is enjoying the new building.
“We just moved in over the long presidents weekend, and last Monday is when our old existing building was torn down and that went rather quickly,” said Ramos.
The old school, which was build back in 1948, was located in the back on of the campus which is now torn down. Students stayed in that old building while the reconstruction was taking place.
“So now we are vise versa,” said Ramos. “Now we are in this existing new beautiful building and then the old building has been torn down now that will become the play area.”
The new state of the art campus serves nearly 600 students from Kindergarten through 5th grade.
When asked what the favorite part of the school was, Diaz had a long list.
“The classrooms, because it has all the mobile furniture and everything practically is magnetic,” said Diaz.
The school also includes piano room, equipped with several pianos, headphones, and monitors to help teach students the art of music.
The grand opening ceremony will take place Saturday morning at 10am.
