ECHO Homeless Shelter in SLO receives $10,000 grant

The Community Foundation through the 2019 Community Needs Grant program has given the ECHO homeless shelter in Atascadero a $10,000 grant.

The ECHO homeless shelter provides 50 overnight beds for those who have nowhere else to go.

“The grant will help us provide the resources needed as the people we serve work hard to put the pieces together to find permanent homes,” said Wendy Lewis, President/CEO of ECHO.

While at the ECHO facility clients are offered case management services to help them find a job and a permanent place to call home within three months of coming into the shelter. Clients also have acces to hot showers three times a week, as well as opportunities to learn life skills life budgeting and self-health care.

According to ECHO officials, they have a volunteer community made up of some 500 people. Volunteers serve about 80 dinners every night to shelter residents and the area’s homeless.

“Through the Community Needs Grant, we are proud to support and further ECHO’s work impacting the homeless families and individuals in our region,” said CEO of The Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County Heidi McPherson.
