Privatized housing at Vandenberg under review by Senator Feinstein

Senator Dianne Feinstein has called for a review of privatized military housing in California in response to reports of substandard housing run by several private contractors; privatized housing at Vandenberg Air Force Base is among the reviewed.

According to Feinstein’s camp, a recent Reuters investigation reports that service members and their families have had to live in unfavorable conditions such as rodent and insect infestations, mold blooms, water leaks as well as poor construction and maintenance at privately run housing on military bases located in California, as well as across the nation.

Senator Feinstein wrote, “The Reuters articles describe military officials unable or unwilling to intervene on behalf of our service members, and private contractors who either blamed service members for the poor state of their housing or otherwise failed to remedy serious health and safety hazards.”

Senator Feinstein has called on military officials to provide documents regarding private housing contracts at several military bases including Travis Air Force Base, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Vandenberg Air Force Base, and Naval Base San Diego.
