Hit and run suspect in custody

A hit and run suspect was taken into custody after slamming into a tree and then trying to take off in Ventura.

Police said they received a 911 call after a driver hit a tree, made a u-turn and then tried to flee in the area of Telephone Road and Jasper Avenue. The damage to the suspect, David Malijan’s vehicle was so bad that he had to ditch his SUV a short distance from the crash site and walk away, according to police.

The first officer who arrived on scene found the SUV and searched the area, eventually locating the suspect. Police said Malijan was confrontational when they tried to question him, and violently resisted arrest. When more officers arrived he was arrested and taken into custody.

Malijan is facing hit and run, DUI drugs and resisting a police officer charges.
