New head of Santa Barbara Chamber of Commerce sought

The Santa Barbara Regional Chamber of Commerce is looking for a new director.

Earlier this week, Ken Oplinger stepped down. He has been at the helm for three years.

Also this year the head of the Downtown Organization Maggie Campbell left her post.

Oplinger remained optimistic about the resilience of the area following two disasters over the last year. He spoke strongly about the come back efforts with local businesses and residents when he attended a special meeting in San Luis Obispo in the fall as a speaker.

His effort to win a city council seat in Oxnard where he lives failed in November.

The future plans for Oplinger are not known.

The search for a new leader for the chamber has begun.

Mayor Cathy Murillo says she is looking forward to the two new members of the business community coming together this year with a collaboration between the chamber, downtown organization and city officials to jump start the local economy.
