Illegal substances and alcohol may be linked to morning car crash in a Goleta neighborhood

Three young men were detained by Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies after a vehicle they were in went out of control in a Goleta neighborhood.

It ended up over the curb and next to a wall with significant damage to the suspension.

A neighbor came out to check on the condition of one person at the scene while two others in the car reportedly took off on foot.

Responding deputies were able to corral all three.

Tests were being conducted for alcohol and drug use. They included a field sobriety test and breathalyzer along with on the scene heart rate checks. Some evidence was immediately visible.

One person had a head injury but declined medical care.

The vehicle, a small silver sedan crashed on Tuolumne Dr. where it makes a curve on to Ellwood Station Rd.

Gathering the information and towing the vehicle took more than two hours. A neighbor gave a witness statement. She said there was a loud bang when the accident occurred. Her efforts to render aid were rejected, according to the witness.

Evidence and test results will be presented to the District Attorney where charges are expected to be filed.
