High surf advisory keeps many people from the South Coast waters
On a sunny December day, an ocean advisory has kept many people from going too far beyond the shoreline.
The National Weather Service and the NewsChannel 3 First Alert weather center issued a high surf advisory until the mid-morning hours.
That came with stronger than normal waves, rip currents and in some areas, dangerous swimming conditions.
By the afternoon, the surf had calmed down and the water conditions were safer.
The beaches have been a popular stop this time of year for those on vacation and especially if they have been coming from areas of the country with snow or inclement weather.
