Men sentenced for 2017 robbery spree in Oxnard

Two men are sentenced for their involvement in kidnappings, carjackings, and robberies to benefit their street gang.

District Attorney Gregory Totten announced today that Joseph Salas and Carlos Avila, both of Oxnard will be headed to state prison.

Salas is facing 26 years and 4 months after he pleaded guilty in September of 2018 to one count of kidnapping and two counts of robbery with special allegations that he committed the crimes for benefit of a criminal street gang.

Avila was sentenced to 9 years and 4 months in state prison for one count of carjacking and one count of robbery with special allegations that he committed the crimes for benefit of a criminal street gang.

The crimes took place throughout April of 2017 on three separate occasions. Salas took part of all three incidents, while Avila took part in one.
