Robbery suspect arrested after injuring victim

The Santa Maria Police Department is investigating a robbery that left one person injured Sunday night.

According to the Santa Maria Police Department, officers responded to the 100 block of North Benwiley Avenue just before 8:00 p.m. Sunday regarding a robbery. The victim was reportedly injured during the incident. Officers were able to identify the suspect. 37-year-old Demetrius Johnson who fled from officers and failed to comply with their orders. Johnson was eventually arrested with the help of a police canine.

Johnson was booked into jail on multiple charges. The victim was treated at Marian Regional Medical Center, police said.
