Cal edges Cal Poly in final seconds

Cal Poly hit a go-ahead shot in the final seconds, only to watch the Cal Golden Bears do the same.

Close, but not enough for a road victory.

The Mustangs (3-6) got 26 points from the clutch Donovan Fields but lost on Paris Austin’s game-winning jumper with less than four seconds remaining in a 67-66 win for Cal on Saturday night.

Fields hit a tough shot falling away in the lane with 14 seconds left that looked like it would be the game-winner, only for Austin to hit an equally tough shot off a crossover on the other end.

Mark Crowe added 11 points for the Mustangs.

Justice Sueing led the Golden Bears (4-5) with 15 points.

Cal Poly plays next at Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday night.
