Butterfly Beach volunteer clean-up day cancelled

Saturday’s scheduled volunteer clean-up day at Butterfly Beach in Montectio is cancelled ahead of a large swell expected next week.

Timothy Kirshtner posted photos of some of the debris collected along the rocks over the past few days.

Lots of trash and large pieces of a wrecked boat are piled up near the road across from the Biltmore Hotel.

Kirshtner said there’s still lots of styrofoam and trash littering the rocks. He normally gets local surfers to help dig it out because navigating the rocky shoreline is dangerous and tricky.

Kirshtner’s Clearwaterways organization helps pick up trash in roadways and waterways from Los Angeles to San Francisco.

He is also devoted to educating people about ways to cut down on litter, especially along freeways where large amounts of man-made trash are found.
