Possible DUI crash knocks out power to some Goleta residents

A Goleta man is in jail after crashing his car Wednesday night.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff officials said 31-year-old Erik Andersson crashed his Dodge Challenger into a utility pole and large metal utility box just before 11:30 p.m. near the 7600 block of Calle Real in Goleta.

Andersson’s car landed on the sidewalk up against a retaining wall near the intersection of Calle Real and Hempstead Avenue.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Power and communication services were stopped to nearby residents due to the damaged utility box.

Southern California Edison and Cox Communications work crews responded to the scene to restore services to customers.
