Stained glass window damaged at Santa Maria Church

A Santa Maria church needs to repair a large stained glass window after a vandal shattered it over the weekend.

It happened at Santa Maria First United Methodist Church at the busy intersection of Broadway and Church Street.

Sometime Saturday night or early Sunday morning, someone broke the colorful window in the church sanctuary.

The motivation is unknown. Church members are upset about what happened.

“We do feel victimized and violated, obviously disappointed and at times angry as to why someone would do this to do us. We don’t know if it was a random act, an emotional outburst. I just can’t image that someone would plan it and would target it for any reason, so it’s a mystery,” said Pastor Bob Isip.

The church does not know how much it will cost to fix the damage, but the goal is to repair the window as quickly as possible.
