Santa Barbara man arrested after slashing another person’s hand

A 65-year-old Santa Barbara man is behind bars after pulling a knife and slashing somebody, authorities say.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office says Scott Luikart was involved in a verbal argument with the unidentified victim shortly before 3 p.m. on Dec. 2, 2018, in the 100 block of South Turnpike Road in unincorporated Santa Barbara County.

At some point after the argument, authorities say Luikart took out a knife and slashed the victim’s hand. Both individuals received minor injuries.

The victim received medical attention at the scene but Luikart was taken to the hospital for treatment of his minor injuries, said the Sheriff’s Office.

Luikart was arrested and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon and is being held on $30,000 bail.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 805-683-2724 or call 805-681-4171 to leave an anonymous tip.
