ORIGINAL STORY

Santa Barbara police are investigating a deadly motorcycle crash outside the east campus of Santa Barbara City College.

The incident was reported as a motorcyclist versus vehicle at 4 p.m. Monday. Santa Barbara police say witnesses told investigators that a male motorcyclist was traveling at high speeds on Cliff Drive near Santa Barbara City College.

The motorcyclist then sees a white car pulling out of Loma Alta and Cliff Drive. The motorcyclist tries to correct his fishtail after seeing the white car. The motorcyclist then loses control of the motorcycle and catapults into the air. He then makes contact with the concrete and lands on his head which is how he died.

It’s unknown if the driver suffered any injuries in the crash.

Two Good Samaritans — an off-duty nurse and EMT, according to police, stopped to provide life-saving measures to the motorcyclist but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Santa Barbara police closed surrounding streets to allow authorities to investigate. Motorists are advised.

A collision reconstruction team will be on scene for the next several hours investigating the fatal crash. Santa Barbara Police Department Spokesman Anthony Wagner said lack of lights is hampering the investigation. Additional lights have been ordered to the scene.

Neither the driver of the car or motorcyclist has been identified.

No further details were immediately known.
