Rope rescue needed after truck goes off 101 in Summerland

A vehicle accident on Highway 101 at Ortega Hill Road in Summerland is slowing traffic.

The accident involved a truck that went over the side and required a rescue by firefighters. Crews conducted a rope rescue, according to the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District. The driver was brought up from where the car landed and is said to be in critical condition.

The crash was off the side of the southbound lanes, closest to the ocean. Crews are expected to be a the scene for the next few hours.
