Firefighters rescue entangled horse in Hope Ranch

Santa Barbara County firefighters used the Jaws of Life to help free a 12-year-old Rocky Mountain Mare that had gotten entangled in a fence on the 4400 block of Via Esperanza in Hope Ranch Thursday afternoon.

Fire officials say they believe the horse got its rear leg stuck in the fence as it was trying to jump it. The property is located in unincorporated Santa Barbara County.

Santa Barbara County Fire Capt. Dave Zaniboni explained that the horse had to be sedated before attempting to free its leg from the fence. Once free, a veterinarian checked on the sedated horse.

The mare suffered injuries to its left rear leg in the incident. The extent of those injuries is unknown. {“url”:”https://twitter.com/SBCFireInfo/status/1068265794499371008″,”author_name”:”Dave Zaniboni”,”author_url”:”https://twitter.com/SBCFireInfo”,”html”:”&#lt;blockquote class=”twitter-tweet”&#gt;&#lt;p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”&#gt;Horse rescue, 4400 blk.
