Davis named Big West Player of Week, Gauchos get defensive in Idaho

The Gauchos defense traveled well and senior Ar’Mond Davis gave UCSB just enough offense to beat both Portland State and Idaho to go 2-0 at the Vandal Holiday Hoops Showcase in Boise, Idaho.

Davis was named Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 19.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in the tournament as UCSB improves to 5-1 on the year.

The Gauchos last started 5-1 in 2007-08, the same season they finished 23-9 and initially set the program record for victories.

Santa Barbara held Idaho to just 55 points and are currently fourth in the nation in three-point field goal percentage defense.

Santa Barbara hosts Sacramento State on Thursday, November 29 and all high school students get in free to the game.

The Hornets are 3-0.

UCSB star Max Heidegger may play in that game as he has been cleared to practice after missing all six games this year due to a concussion.
