Kiwanis serve special 40th anniversary Thanksgiving lunch for the disabled

The Santa Barbara Kiwanis have come together to serve its annual Thanksgiving lunch for the disabled. This is the 40th year for the event.

About 300 attended in the historic Carrillo Recreation center.

The meal was served on tables set up over the main dance floor.

Hot turkey with all the trimmings, potatoes and pumpkin pie came off an assembly line and those attending were treated with table service.

Mayor Cathy Murrillo welcomed them along with Police Chief Lori Luhnow who said, “I want to make sure that you all know how much we appreciate you in this community. It’s an honor to serve you a very special meal today. I wouldn’t have missed this and I want to thank the Kiwanis for allowing me to be part of the day”

She encouraged everyone attending to “be kind to one another and be safe in our wonderful community.”
