Getaway traffic not too bad in Santa Barbara

The big city travel problems for the Thanksgiving holiday were not as present in Santa Barbara, Goleta or Carpinteria today.

Those hitting the road and filling up at the Fuel Depot on the Santa Barbara Mesa said the light rain forecasted was not going to hinder their plans.

Once concern was for those on a trip past Los Angeles that would have them returning Sunday night. That is when the Hollywood Parade takes place and it usually generates big crowds and freeway offramp closures.

The Santa Barbara Airport is offering extra customer service and shuttles for the weekend and hopes to accommodate peak out travelers.

At the Santa Barbara train station the afternoon stop that brought passengers from San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles came with many hugs and some tears. Those on board said they had an easy time without the stress of driving.

The Auto Club says the number of people driving to a holiday destination would be up compared to recent years, and possibly the highest in a decade.

Also, in the last few weeks gas prices have slowly dropped.

A light rain in the evening in Santa Barbara County led to at least one accident, a rollover on Highway 101 at Highway 154 in the Santa Ynez Valley.
