Fire breaks out near homeless encampment in Oxnard

Firefighters put out a fire inside a homeless encampment in Oxnard Wednesday morning, according to the fire department.

The fire broke out at 12:18 a.m. on N. Ventura Road near the river bottom, the department said.

It took firefighters about 10 minutes to put out the fire once they got on the scene.

Firefighters say the fire was about less than an acre big.

The fire department believes someone inside the homeless encampment started the fire which they say has been an ongoing issue.
