Dimes Media helping promote KCOY Turkey Drive over the radio airwaves

Dimes Media is once again providing valuable on-air promotion for the upcoming KCOY Turkey Drive.

The annual event is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 15 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Collections will benefit thousands of families and individuals that are in need throughout San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara counties.

Right now, the San Luis Obispo-based media company is helping spread the word through ongoing promotion over its five radio stations (WILD 106, 95.3 The Beach, B98.5, Alt 93.7 and KPIG)

“I love doing this event in particular and giving our time and I love the caring and loving that our listeners and your viewers come through with year after year,” said WILD 106 morning host JoJo Lopez. “It’s fun to be on the radio and say we’re here, we’re looking for turkeys and seeing people instantly come right as we say that on the radio. They instantly show up, they go into the store and buy a couple of turkeys, so I love that feeling.”

This marks the third straight year Dimes Media is teaming up with KCOY 12 Central Coast News is help promote the event.

“Dimes does a great job of promoting that and beating the drum for us so that everyone is aware of ways that they can help,” said Kevin Drabinski, Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County executive director. “With the medium comes the responsibility and they certainly take that seriously and make sure people are aware of ways that they can help their community and bringing a turkey into somebody’s home who otherwise is not going to have is an amazing thing to make happen. We’re happy to have them as a partner into making this event happen.”

In addition to promotion leading up to the Turkey Drive, Dimes Media will also provide live coverage from on the day of the drive in Pismo Beach from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Lopez will be joined at California Fresh Market by other on-air personalities, DJ Flashback and Davinia.

The popular radio hosts will be on location broadcasting live, as well as giving listeners that stop by, a chance to win fun giveaways.

“It’s a great feeling,” said Lopez. “Most of the time when you think of WILD 106, you think of dance music, you think of happy fun times, or maybe we’re giving away concert tickets, but you don’t always think about these types of things and charitable events, but we have that responsibility as a broadcaster here on the Central Coast to do that and I love that we get to do that. It’s a good feeling to be able to give back. A lot of people listen and they’re always so willing to open up their hearts and their wallets when we ask them to and it’s really cool.”

The KCOY Turkey Drive will be held Thursday, Nov. 15 from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at various locations.

Turkeys, non-perishable food and monetary donations will be accepted at the KCOY building in Santa Maria, Grocery Outlet in Lompoc, California Fresh Market in Pismo Beach, Food Bank Coalition of San Luis County headquarters in San Luis Obispo and Vons in Atascadero.

Collections in San Luis Obispo County benefit Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County.

Collections in Santa Barbara County benefit Good Samaritan Shelter.
