Visit local farms during Ventura County Farm Day this Saturday

Lemons, avocados, strawberries are just some of the local produce grown locally and now you have a chance to check out the farms they grow on in-person. This Saturday is Ventura County Farm Day.

The free event gives you the chance to check out up to 20 Ventura County farms at an open house of sorts. Each farm will feature a number of family-friendly activities, farm tours, plus food and beverage samplings.

“Because we eat every single day of course but we know very little about where our food is grown and how it is grown and we don’t know the farmers who grow it so get connected know your farmers know your food,” said Ventura County Farm Day Founder Mary Marancille.

Chris Sayer of Petty Ranch said, “Most of the people that come out and visit us on farm day probably 3/4 of them have never had a chance to actually come out and be on a farm and see fruit on the trees.”

New this year is a Farm Day Kickoff BBQ taking place at Oxnard Historic Farm Park this Friday evening. Guest can enjoy “Farm-to-Table” BBQ, locally produced craft cocktails and music. Barbecue tickets are $45 for adults and $15 for kids under 12.
