Firefighters put out morning fire in Santa Ynez riverbed

Firefighters doused flames in the Santa Ynez riverbed Tuesday morning.

According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, firefighters responded to a burning trash heap in the Santa Ynez riverbed near the Lompoc multi-purpose trail at the end of North ‘A’ Street just after 6:20 a.m.

No one was hurt and it took more than an hour for firefighters to douse the flames and smoldering pile of trash, firefighters said.

It comes after the City of Lompoc spent several weeks conducting a massive eviction of homeless encampments and clean up of the riverbed that cost the city tens of thousands of dollars.
