Authorities investigating homicide inside Ventura County Jail

Investigators with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office are looking into a homicide that occurred inside the Ventura County jail facility on Oct. 25, 2018.

The Sheriff’s Office says 61-year-old Oxnard resident Michael Larios Torres was found unconscious inside his jail cell. Despite life-saving efforts, Torres was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined Torres died from the injuries he suffered during an assault inside his jail cell, the Sheriff’s Office said. Authorities explain the death was caused by blunt force trauma and neck compression.

Torres’ cellmate is the suspect in this case but his identity is not being released at this time.

Authorities say they will release more information at a later time regarding this ongoing investigation.
