Authorities identify dead body found over weekend near Isla Vista beach

Authorities have identified the body of a man discovered near an Isla Vista beach on Oct. 20, 2018, as 20-year-old Alessandro Esquivel of Downey, California.
Esquivel’s body was discovered near the surf line just east of Camino Del Sur by a passerby walking on the beach at about 9:30 a.m.
“It doesn’t appear there was any foul play, no obvious signs however it’s the beginning of the investigation and at this point, we don’t know what happened,” said Kelly Hoover, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer.
The investigation is ongoing. A final cause and manner of death are pending toxicology and lab results.
The family has set up a GoFundMe to cover funeral costs.
Esquivel was a UC Santa Barbara student entering his sophomore year, according to the GoFundMe page.

A passerby discovered a dead body near an Isla Vista beach Saturday morning.
The Isla Vista Foot Patrol is investigating the death of a college-age, white-male, whose body was found around 9:30 a.m. near the surf line just east of the Camino Del Sur beach access in Isla Vista.
The identity of the dead man is being withheld until authorities can positively identify him and his next of kin has been notified.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office says that the circumstances of his death are unknown at this time, but preliminary indications suggest that death occurred recently and there are no obvious signs of foul play.
