Pedestrian killed in hit-and-run on Highway 101 in Paso Robles
The California Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run accident that killed a pedestrian on Highway 101 in Paso Robles.
According to CHP, at about 5 a.m. Oct. 11, 2018, a man was attempting to either walk or run across the U.S. 101 freeway when he was struck by a passing vehicle traveling southbound on U.S. 101 just north of the 13th Street overcrossing.
The driver then fled the scene without notifying authorities, CHP says. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later identified as 22-year-old Nathaniel J. Weatherly. His last known residence was San Miguel but was living as a transient, according to CHP.
Highway 101 traffic was diverted at 17th and 24th streets while emergency crews investigated. The freeway re-opened at 7:20 a.m. Thursday, CHP said. The incident is being treated as a felony hit-and-run.
There is no suspect or vehicle description at this time but CHP is urging anyone with information regarding this incident to contact them at 805-434-1822.
