Motorcyclist killed in crash near Arroyo Grande after deer runs onto roadway

A Los Osos man was killed Tuesday morning when a deer was struck after running onto the roadway.

The crash happened on southbound U.S. Highway 101 near El Campo Road, east of Arroyo Grande at about 6:30 a.m. Oct. 9.

The California Highway Patrol says a 54-year-old Orcutt man was driving south of El Campo Road when he struck a deer that had run onto the roadway causing it to be thrown into the next traffic lane directly into the path of a 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle being driven by 49-year-old Johnny Dale Trujillo.

Trujillo then struck the deer which caused him to be ejected from the motorcycle, according to CHP.

CHP says soon after, a 67-year-old Arroyo Grande woman, later identified as Kathryn Sue Hoag, ran over Trujillo with her Toyota Prius.

Trujillo suffered fatal injuries. Neither of the drivers who were traveling in cars was hurt.

The incident remains under investigation. CHP is asking anyone that may have information about this deadly crash to call them at 805-594-8700.
