WWII grenade found in Santa Barbara garage

Most people find old photos or keepsakes when cleaning out their garages. One Santa Barbara man found a World War II grenade.

The man was cleaning out his garage on Tajo Drive in Santa Barbara around 1:45 p.m. when he found a WWII Mk-2 pineapple grenade. He called the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office saying he believed the grenade belonged to his deceased WWII veteran grandfather.

The Sheriff’s Office dispatched their bomb squad and began evacuating people in the area including next-door neighbors. The bomb squad safely collected and disposed of the historic grenade.
