Tennessee girl accused of sending ‘shoot up the school’ email to school teacher in SLO

A 14-year-old girl from Tennessee is being accused of sending an email to a teacher at Laguna Middle School in San Luis Obispo threatening to “shoot up the school.”

The San Luis Obispo Police Department says the email was sent on Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, at about 4:50 p.m. School officials immediately notified police who were able to obtain an IP address showing the email had originated at a home in the state of Tennessee.

SLO police notified authorities in Tennessee as well as the FBI about the threat and say a 14-year-old girl was responsible for making the threats. Police say there is no evidence to suggest the teen has ties to San Luis Obispo or any of the schools in the area.

The threatening email did not name Laguna Middle School or any specific individuals connected with the school, according to investigators who noted San Luis Obispo High School was mentioned in the email.

Although authorities believe there are no on-going threats to any schools or businesses within San Luis Obispo, Laguna Middle School Principal John Calandro says school officials are following “district safety protocols.”

The case has been turned over to authorities in Tennessee for further investigation.
