Residents put out transformer fire in Santa Barbara

Two good Samaritans helped put out a transformer fire that has more than 5,000 people without power in Santa Barbara.

Residents at the Highlands Condo complex on the 1000 block of Miramonte Drive say two men helped put out the transformer fire with nearby fire extinguishers.

The Santa Barbara City Fire Department was notified of the fire around 2:45 p.m.

Firefighters say some residents were worried about smoke coming out of nearby electrical breaker boxes but confirmed that there was no additional threat.

According to the Southern California Edison website, more than 5,000 people are without power in the area.

Firefighters say the outage spreads from atop of the Mesa all the way down to Cliff Drive.
