Motorcycle crash halts traffic on Highway 101 through Santa Barbara

Emergency crews were called to the scene of a motorcycle accident in Santa Barbara Friday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol website, the crash involves a motorcyclist on the northbound side of Highway 101 between the Salinas Street and Milpas Street off-ramps. It happened just before 12 p.m.

Santa Barbara police and fire departments blocked all lanes of the freeway for about 10 minutes to assist paramedics tending to the motorcyclist. Traffic was at a standstill going north while the investigation took place.

Good Samaritans stopped to help the crash victim.

A fire department spokesperson said the male motorcyclist was found conscious near the center divider. Officials said he was wearing a helmet and protective gear which helped decrease his potential for major injuries.

American Medical Response ambulance transported the man to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with abrasions.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
